 Definition of Adjective:

An adjective is a word that describes a noun or pronoun and gives information.

For example: "The tall building", "The red car", "The old man".

          An adjective is a word that describes or modifies a noun or pronoun in a sentence. Adjectives provide additional information about the noun or pronoun they modify and help to specify or clarify its meaning. They can describe qualities, such as color, size, shape about size, shape, age, color, origin, or material or character; they can also indicate the quantity, such as many, few, or several. Adjectives are usually placed before the noun or pronoun they modify, but they can also come after certain linking verbs, such as be, seem, or become.


Mainly adjective has 4 types :

1. Adjective of quality

2. Adjective of quantity

3. Adjective of number

4. Pronominal Adjective 


1. Adjective of quality or Descriptive

He is good bay.

The boy is dull.

The women is old.

An adjective of quality describes a characteristic or property of a noun, such as size, shape, color, origin, material, etc. It provides more information about the noun and helps to describe its qualities or attributes.These are the most common type of adjective and describe the qualities of the noun or pronoun they modify.    Examples of adjectives of quality include: "big," "round," "red," "European," "plastic," etc.

 2. Adjective of quantity :

Give him some milk.

He has a lot of money.

There is a little water in this pot.

These describe the quantity or amount of the noun or pronoun they modify.An adjective is used before a noun.                                                                 

 Examples include "many", "few", "several". 

3.Adjective of number or Numeral Adjective

I have five pen.

Nature gives us double pleasure.

I have some ripe mango.

An adjective of number describes the quantity of a noun, indicating whether it is singular or plural, definite or indefinite.                                                                

Examples of adjectives of number include "one," "two," "few," "many," "several," "both," "all," "each," etc.

#There are two types of Numeral or Number of Adjective:

1. Definite Numerals:These refer to an indefinite or vague quantity of nouns or pronouns and include words such as "some", "any", "each", and "all".A definite numeral adjective is a type of adjective of number that refers to a specific and identifiable quantity of a noun. It refers to a definite number of things and gives a precise quantity of the noun being referred to. Examples of definite numeral adjectives include "one," "two," "three," "twenty," "hundred," etc.

#There are three types of Definite Numeral Adjective:

→ a.Cardinal  Numeral Adjectives :

          I have nine apples in my busket

          The teacher gives five minute extra in the exam

          A cardinal numeral adjective is a type of adjective of number that refers to the counting numbers, such as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. It is used to indicate the quantity of a noun in a specific and precise manner. Cardinal numeral adjectives are often used in combination with nouns to form cardinal numeral phrases, which indicate the exact quantity of the noun being referred to. Examples of cardinal numeral adjectives include "one," "two," "three," "twenty," "hundred," etc

→ b. Ordinal Numeral Adjectives

           Namira lives in a second floor.

           Alisha got her first prize.

          An ordinal numeral adjective is a type of adjective of number that refers to the order or position of a noun in a series. It is used to indicate the rank or position of a noun in relation to other nouns. Ordinal numeral adjectives are often formed by adding the suffix "-th" to a cardinal number, such as "first," "second," "third," "twenty-first," etc. They are used to express the order or sequence of items, such as the position of someone in a race or the order in which things occur.

→ c. Multiplicatives Numeral Adjective:

          He lives single in the hostel  

A multiplicative numeral adjective is a type of adjective of number that expresses a quantity as a multiple of another quantity. It is used to indicate that a noun is repeated a certain number of times. Multiplicative numeral adjectives are often formed by combining a cardinal numeral with a word such as "double," "triple," "quadruple," etc. They are used to describe a noun as being two, three, four, etc. times larger or smaller than another noun.

 Examples of multiplicative numeral adjectives include "double," "triple," "quadruple," "tenfold," etc

2. Indefinite Numerals 

      All men must die.

       Few men are happy in this world.

      He came oneday to see me.

    An indefinite numeral adjective is a type of adjective of number that refers to an imprecise or unspecified quantity of a noun. Unlike cardinal or ordinal numeral adjectives, indefinite numeral adjectives do not give a specific or definite number, but rather refer to an indefinite or approximate amount. 

Examples of indefinite numeral adjectives include "some," "any," "few," "many," "several," "both," "all," "each," etc.

4. Pronominal Adjective:

A pronominal adjective is a type of pronoun that modifies a noun or a noun phrase, serving the same function as an adjective. Examples of pronominal adjectives in English include "mine," "yours," "his," "hers," "its," "ours," and "theirs."

A pronominal adjective, also known as a possessive pronoun or possessive adjective, is a word that modifies a noun to indicate possession or ownership. It acts as both a pronoun and an adjective by replacing a noun and indicating a relationship between the noun and the pronoun.

 Examples of pronominal adjectives in English include:

"My car is new." (In this sentence, "my" is a pronominal adjective that modifies the noun "car" and indicates that the speaker owns the car.)

"Her books are on the shelf." (In this sentence, "her" is a pronominal adjective that modifies the noun "books" and indicates that they belong to her.)

"Their house is big." (In this sentence, "their" is a pronominal adjective that modifies the noun "house" and indicates that it belongs to them.)

#There are four types of pronominal adjective : 

1.Demonstrative Adjective :

               These point to specific nouns or pronouns and include words such as "this", "that","same","other", "these", and "those".

2.Interrogative Adjective:

              These are used to ask questions about the noun or pronoun and include "which","Whose", and "what".
3.Distributive Adjective:

               A distributive pronoun is a pronoun that refers to a person or thing in a group, indicating that each individual in the group is referred to separately and not collectively. Distributive pronouns emphasize individual members of a group rather than the group as a whole.

Examples:

"Each of you has a task to complete." (In this sentence, "each" is a distributive pronoun that refers to each person in the group separately.)

"Neither of these options is suitable for me." (In this sentence, "neither" is a distributive pronoun that refers to the two options individually, rather than collectively as a group of two options.)

"Either of the two cars can be used." (In this sentence, "either" is a distributive pronoun that refers to one of the two cars, not both of them collectively.

 

4.Possessive Adjective:

possesssive adjective : This is my pen

possessive pronoun : This pen is mine.

These show possession or ownership and include words such as "my", "our","their","your", "his", "her", and "its".Possessive adjectives are seats before nouns and meaning shows as like adjective. 

       Adjectives play a crucial role in sentence structure and are used in several ways in grammar:

 Proper adjectives

            These adjectives from proper nouns and always start with a capital letter. Examples include "Chinese", "Shakespearean".

 Adjective Order

          Adjectives can be used in a specific order to provide more information about the noun they modify. The order is typically: Opinion, Size, Age, Shape, Color, Origin, Material, Purpose.

 Adjective agreement

             Adjectives must agree in gender and number with the noun they modify. For example, in Spanish, "azul" (blue) would become "azul" for masculine nouns and "azul" for feminine nouns.

Comparison of adjectives: 

          Adjectives can be compared to show degree, such as "bigger", "smallest". The three degrees of comparison are positive, comparative, and superlative.

Adjectives used as Nouns:

           Adjectives can also be used as nouns in some cases, such as "the rich", "the poor", "the young", "the old".

 Adjectives used as Predicates

            Adjectives can also be used as predicates, connecting to the subject of a sentence and expressing its state or condition, such as "The sky is blue."

 Adjectives used as Adverbs

            In some cases, adjectives can be used as adverbs to modify verbs, such as "She sings beautifully."



 In summary, adjectives provide important information about nouns and pronouns in a sentence and can be used in various ways to express different meanings and relationships between words.
